Dinosaur Kale - Truth be told we much prefer to use the term dinosaur kale but this leafy green goes by many names including: Lacinato kale, black kale, and Tuscan Kale. A long time staple of Italian cooking, try adding it to your next pot of minestrone soup.
Swiss Chard - A native of the Mediterranean, you might wonder why Swiss chard is called, well, Swiss chard. Though subject to debate, many attribute this name to the nationality of the botanist who described it. For a boost of vitamin K and other phyto-nutrients try chard chopped in a salad or sautéed in garlic.
Cilantro - What we know as cilantro is actually the leaves of the coriander plant. Imbued with a zest/ fresh flavor profile, this herb is a staple in Mexican, Indian, and South Asian cuisine. Try it many ways from salsa, to chutney, to pho.
Summer Squash - Summer squashes- unlike their autumnal cousins are harvested when their rinds are still tender and edible. Though typically thought of as a vegetable, squash develops botanically like a fruit. Try preparing in the form of veggie noodles for a healthy pasta substitute.
The Local Box is the only basket you can't customize - it's a selection of super fresh, all local and sustainably grown produce straight from local farms. Contents rotate weekly and sometimes even daily! We'll send a list of items in the box and where they came from. The Local Box contents are announced every Friday on our website and Saturday morning in our newsletter. A picture will be posted every Friday that may contain some or all of the following week's local items.
