Michelle A and Kadija L
New Basket Builders
Michelle (on the left) has been in Austin since 2000. Last year she lived on a sustainable community in East Texas and initiated their involvement in a local farmers market. She really likes being part of a family team, loves chips & salsa, and can be found doing all of the wonderful outdoor activities Austin offers. Her favorite words of wisdom are 'live in the moment.'
Kadija (on the right if you skipped ahead) is from Austin and was brought into the family by Beth, one of our other members. She's a vegan and loves cucumbers! When not building baskets for you she likes to sleep, dance, swim, watch movies, and run.

The Texas 4000 for Cancer team is pedaling their way to Alaska! You can follow the team's progress through the rider blogs on www.texas4000.org - where they will share stories and photos of their experiences. The ATLAS Ride kicked off their journey in true Texas style - several hundred riders joined them in cycling the first 70 miles. Organic produce from Greenling was a hit again this year and helped the cyclists fuel for the ride!

New Greenling Events
Lunch Bomb!
-Tuesday, July 14th
-12:00pm
-We're going Dutch
-Kerbey Lane North (map)
Join Greenling on Tuesday to support local businesses supporting local farms. There are lots of restaurants around town striving to use local products and they need us eating there (when we're not cooking at home with our families....which we should all do more of). We'll try to fill the restaurant up to let them know we appreciate what they do.
This time we'll show our support for Kerbey Lane North! One of the few places up north that is serving local food. They have kept their traditional menu, but have added a seasonal insert that keeps growing. A couple of weeks ago they introduced their Summer Tomato Menu with some really incredible dishes.
So come have lunch with us, get to know some Greenlings, and enjoy some local food prepared by local artisans.
Greenling bombs happen the 2nd Tuesday of every month around town. When we're not enjoying local fare we may also descend on restaurants we WANT to carry more local food. And if you would like to request a particular restaurant, just let us know!

Bake Sale Still Cookin'
The summer heat motivated us to clean some house. We've always tried to offer a great variety of grocery items to compliment the local produce goodness, but if not enough people order them we need to move em out of inventory.
Check out these hot specials (baking hot....we're not actually baking for the sale):
10% off all Wine & Beer (20% off Frog's Leap) - Travis county only - we don't have any problem moving these, but thought we'd throw it in
Annie's French Dressing - $2.99
Kala's Kuisine Curry Hot Sauce - $4.59 - Come on people! This hot sauce rocks. I will fight to keep this one if you start ordering it. It goes with chips, it goes on top of dishes, it's a really unique but versatile topping.
Organic Valley Vermont #1 Sharp Cheddar - $7.59
Earth's Best Baby Rice Cereal - $2.60
Earth's Best Baby Oatmeal - $1.99
And many, many more! Just browse awesome.greenling.com to find them (hint - they'll say 'SALE' next to them)!
Summer Bin Round-up
Please remember to leave out your bins. If you forget, just give us a call and we'll come pick them up another time. Thanks!
Be a Part of Greenling
We've got some ambitious growth plans and we're looking for people who want to support that and own their own piece of Greenling. We've developed an equity offering and a loan program where you can directly support our growth and earn some interest! Please email mason AT greenling DOT com to discuss. |

Vote For Us Pretty Please
Austin Chronicle Reader's Poll
-Vote us Best Local Food Company (We are the 2-year reigning champ)
And not just because we ask nicely. Greenling has been been delivering the best quality and selection of Local food for 4 years. We have 2x-3x the selection of local produce items of ANY grocery store. More local cheeses, more local meat, more local everything. We're you're best source for local goodness, guaranteed!
We can support local artisan producers in ways no one else can. Because of our online ordering, if they want to sell a new product we can try the samples and offer it on the website to see if you're interested in it before they invest in all the supplies needed to make that new product in large quantities - saving them time and money. We can, and do, work with local vendors of all sizes - from the 6-dozen yard eggs we get from Smiling Frog Farm to the thousands of pounds of melons we get from Buena Tierra. We help local food producers grow (pun most certainly intended).
So vote for us and make us the Best Local Food Company in Austin for the 3rd year in a row! And get your friends to vote for us too! We appreciate every vote and we'd be so honored to win this again.

Greenling Event Reminders
Local Food Tasting Soiree
-Friday, July 10th
-7:00pm
-FREE
-Akoya - Mason's Home (map)
We've got several local chefs preparing some dishes with in-season Greenling Organic products and we're inviting Greenlings (that's you) to prepare your own, too. This month we'll have dilectable creations by Barboleta's, Coté Catering, and Somnio's. We'll also have some Innocent Chocolate, cocktails made with Solixir Botanical beverages, and more. The group will decide which ones get to go in the Greenling Central Texas Seasonal cookbook (name to be improved later) and the creator will get featured in the book.
So bring your best recipes and let Greenling make you famous. Or not...it is Austin, after all so there's no pressure or dress code or any of that. All you really need to bring is yourself. Please RSVP soon as we're above capacity but can squeeze in a few more. Call or email Devon.

Recipe Corner
Grilled Peaches & Mozzarella Salad
Ingredients:
- 5 peaches (not white)
- 3 green onions, sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 3 tablespoons Round Rock honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon lime zest
- 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 1/2 tablespoons tequila (optional)
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- Vegetable oil & brush (or cooking spray)
- 6oz baby arugula, thoroughly washed
- 3/4 pound fresh mozzarella, cut into 16 (1/4-inch) slices
- Garnish: fresh cilantro sprigs
Instructions:
Peel and chop 1 peach. Cut remaining 4 peaches into 28 (1/4-inch-thick) rounds, cutting through stem and bottom ends. (Cut peaches inward from sides, cutting each side just until you reach the pit. Discard pits.)
Process chopped peach, green onions, next 7 ingredients, and, if desired, tequila in a food processor 10 to 15 seconds or until smooth. Add oil, and pulse 3 to 4 times or until thoroughly combined.
Coat cold cooking grate of grill with cooking spray, and place on grill. Preheat grill to 350° to 400° (medium-high). Brush both sides of peach rounds with 1/3 cup peach dressing.
Grill peach rounds, covered with grill lid, over 350° to 400° (medium-high) heat 3 to 5 minutes on each side or until grill marks appear.
Arrange baby arugula evenly on 4 plates. Alternately layer 4 grilled peach rounds and 4 cheese slices over watercress on each plate. Top each with 3 more peach rounds. Drizzle with remaining peach dressing. Garnish, if desired.
