Welcome to the Family!

Mason-Arnold-Greenling

When I started Greenling 8 years ago it was with a simple-sounding mission – to make Local & Organic foods more accessible, helping repair our broken food system. I thought it would take a couple of years. Soooo, yeah, it’s really broken. But with twice-a-week delivery, prices comparable to the grocery store, fully customizable baskets, only a $25 minimum, and free home delivery, we’re just plain tickled to be able to provide such a convenient way to eat better.

I am astounded by the amazing people that have rallied around that idea. From the amazing farmers who not only grow the best food in the land but have always been so gracious and supportive; to the growing Greenling team who lovingly make sure each item gets treated with care from farm to your doorstep; to YOU, the most important part of this whole system. We’re humbled and inspired by each person we speak with- thank you for sharing your passion for sourcing real food, without chemicals and additives, for yourself and your family. We’re so excited to help play a role in changing diets and lives for the better in the Houston community that we’re giving 100 lucky people a free basket just for giving us a try (see more details below)! True to Texas, we’ve been met with warm, welcoming arms.

So, here is our pledge to you: We promise to bring you only the best food around, investigating every item so you don’t have to (we can sniff out GMOs from miles away and make them feel like the kid in the 80′s outfit showing up to a hipster party). We promise to source it as close as possible. We’re not trucking this stuff down from Austin. We’ve got a facility right here in Houston and are sourcing from Houston farms. We promise to give small, local farmers a fair price and support them in their work. We promise to do everything we can to help rebuild sustainable local food systems. And we promise to help you, in any way we can, to eat healthier and to spend more time doing things other than sitting in traffic, waiting in lines, and going to the store. We look forward to talking with you and meeting you at local food happenings, and we thank you so much for your support of the Organic and local food system!

Over Bok-Choyed At This Week’s Local Box

This week’s box has a fair amount of green with just enough brightness (beets, grapefruit, radishes) to keep you dreaming about warming days. It’s so easy for me just to roast the beets and eat the citrus out of hand that sometimes making meals come second to serious snacking. Most of these recipes are great to be made ahead or eaten as leftovers.

Meal One: Stuffed Collards with Chickpea and Beet spread. Whether you get broccoli leaves or collards your set for these wraps. I have seen plenty of stuffed collards topped with tomato sauce but I love that these are raw and the spread looks divine!

Meal Two: They call this a Grapefruit-Tangerine recipe a cake, but I am going to go ahead and call it a breakfast cake. Now I can eat it for breakfast and for dessert :)

Meal Three: This cabbage salad is adapted from a Puerto Rican recipe and looks delightful. I’ll mix in my salad greens and either eat it alone for lunch or light dinner or pair it with some simple grilled fish or chicken.

Meal Four: Noodle bowls deserve a special spot on everyone’s recipe repertoire and bok choy is a shining star for the dish. Bok choy does great at soaking in sauces but keeping crisp so it is perfect for any bowl. This recipe is a simple noodle bowl and can be adapted to any selection of veggies. I think raw shaved radishes would be a great addition!
